Hail to you Alma Mater
Home of the blue and white
You lead us onward in our lives
By your guiding light

Lyrics by Thomas G. Ventimiglia

The university located on Alcalá Park was founded 70 years ago in December 1949. The first classes in the San Diego College for Women took place in February 1952. The San Diego College for Men and the School of Law opened in 1954. In 1972, the three units merged into what is now the University of San Diego. But no matter your affiliation with this Linda Vista-based institution of higher education, everyone connected with it is invited to return to this beautiful campus Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 3-6, to celebrate at their college alma mater as a member of the Torero family.

Homecoming and Family Weekend 2019 has arrived. Students who graduated in a year ending in 4 and 9 are celebrating a milestone reunion. The Class of 1969 is the newest group of Golden Toreros, those who graduated 50 years ago and will have a host of celebratory events planned in their honor this particular weekend. The football team will open its Pioneer Football League schedule on Saturday. Alumni and Family Mass is Sunday at Founders Chapel.

There are new events, venues, experiences and opportunities to take part in Homecoming and Family Weekend as an alumnus or alumna of USD. Some events are complimentary to attend (designated by an asterisk*) and those with a specific fee charge are listed.

Thursday, Oct. 3

Alumni Honors has been added to the HFW schedule for the first time and is slated as the weekend’s opening event, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. The 24th annual Alumni Honors will celebrate 11 “USD Superheroes” including the recipients of the Mother Rosalie Clifton Hill Award, Bishop Charles Francis Buddy Award, Alumni Emerging Leader Award, Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Awards and the newest award, the Therese Truitt Whitcomb Faculty Award. Furthermore, the Chet and Marguerite Pagni Family Athletic Hall of Fame inductee will also be feted.
