An urgent message from the Dean of USD’s Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering:
We are heartbroken and horrified by recent events nationally and locally that racially target and marginalize our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, including the tragic and senseless murders of eight individuals earlier this week. We denounce any form of racism and stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends, colleagues and neighbors in solidarity and in compassion. For more information, please click here.

"TRiO programs at USD provided resources that helped me adapt to university as a first-generation college student and are fundamental in my preparation for graduate school. Dr. Cornwall mentored research projects that have shaped my career goals. I have learned from two female role models as a student assistant for the Office of Undergraduate Research. Dr. Kahn-Jetter, Dr. Myers and Dr. Dalrymple have inspired me to continue my efforts as a woman in STEM. I am grateful that USD fosters a community that has paved a way for female success." Jacqueline Puga ‘21 (ME)
"USD has amazing women faculty members whose support has helped me succeed as a woman in the Mechanical Engineering program. Also, my involvement with organizations, such as Society of Women Engineers (SWE), has helped me to meet other talented women and men to build a community of people who wish to promote the success of women in the engineering field. SWE has been so beneficial to my success as a woman in the STEM fields because of how supportive and willing to help everyone is." Nicole Reyes ‘21 (ME)
"As a woman engineer, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has served as a powerful resource to complement the curriculum and the faculty contributions that support my persistence in engineering. SWE provides a diverse and collaborative environment where women are empowered to succeed. Through this organization, I have been able to learn from the tremendous convictions and determination that other women have, and begin to shape my own sense of leadership so that I may serve as a role model for others." Daniella Walter ‘21 (ME, Mathematics Minor)
“Having a community that supports you is necessary in almost all aspects of life. We can’t do anything completely alone. Without my community at USD, earning my engineering degree would be a lot tougher and not as fun. With it, I enjoy friendships, campus involvement, and personal growth.” Taylor Brown '23 (ISyE)
“The community at USD is extremely valuable to me and my personal development. Organizations such as NSBE and resources like student tutors along with the Career Development Center contributed significantly to my professional development and academic success.” Arrion Archie '21 (IntE)
"USD and the Shiley Marcos School of Engineering encourages pushing the boundaries of engineering. One aspect I specifically appreciated is the liberal education and incorporating creative thinking/liberty through design projects and entrepreneurship opportunities. Specifically, I wanted to create a product relating to renewable energy and was able to create my own senior design project and team working towards launching a venture upon graduation through the eTrack Initiative." Sabrina Smith '21 ME

Why Choose USD?
We are instituting bold change to impact the future of engineering and computing

Our unique dual BS/BA degree produces better engineers and computer scientists by developing technical skills along with cultural awareness, communication skills, leadership skills and innovative thinking.

Experience a quality learning environment that encourages collaboration. Professors who are genuinely interested in developing students get to know you personally through office hours, small classes, faculty advising and mentoring.

The Capstone Design Experience at USD's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is a one- or two-semester program designed to give students critical hands on experience solving real engineering and technical problems in innovative learning spaces.

We have created an entrepreneurial mindset where our entrepreneurship teams are creating successful ventures using the scaffolding developed through USD to enter into incubators, venture or acquisition agreements.
