Athletics: Softball Unveils New Reggie Smith Softball Complex

The University of San Diego softball program unveiled its new ballpark on Thursday evening. The Reggie Smith Softball Complex will serve as the team's new home as a state of the art Division I softball facility.
The new stadium was built on the existing USD Softball Complex and was part of a $14.5 million project made possible in part by a lead gift from an anonymous donor. Naming rights for the complex were chosen in part due to the impact of Linda Vista resident and longtime campus icon Reggie Smith.
"The way (Reggie) has impacted the Linda Vista community and the San Diego community as a whole will live on for generations and generations," San Diego Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Kimya Massey said. "There's no more appropriate person to name this complex after because you embody what we tell our student-athletes every single day. What you do on the field, in the classroom and in the community will impact generations."

USD's new facility features a new team building, a Dura Edge collegiate infield, FieldTurf outfield, new bullpens, dugouts with restrooms, press box, concourse, concession areas and restrooms.
The approximately 4,500 square foot team building will serve as the home base of the Torero softball program and includes a new team locker room, sports medicine facility, equipment room, coaches offices and team lounge that will serve as a space for film review, team meals, gatherings, studying and other community events.
"It's with immense pride that we gather here today to celebrate the opening of a new chapter in the University of San Diego softball program," USD head softball coach MJ Knighten said. "Today we're excited to open a new state of the art facility that will support current players, celebrate the program's history and set the stage for our future success."

In total the facility features chair back seating for 384 spectators with the capacity for expansion to host an NCAA Regional and Super Regional.
The Toreros are excited to welcome fans to opening day at the new facility for a doubleheader against Santa Clara on Saturday, April 5 beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets to both games that weekend or for any USD softball home game during the 2025 season can be purchased at this link.
