USD Students Discuss the Importance of Financial Aid with Congresswoman Sara Jacobs

Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs visited the University of San Diego on March 21 to meet with a group of students and discuss the implications of possible changes to financial assistance for college students in light of changes to federal policy and potential cuts to the Department of Education and its programs.
The students at the university represented a variety of disciplines and backgrounds. However, they all share one thing in common: their need for financial assistance to continue their higher education goals.
One by one, the students described the struggles and obstacles they faced in pursuing a college degree. They laid out their hopes and dreams and the importance of receiving financial aid - especially federal work-study opportunities, grants, and loans - in making their education a reality. They also shared their concerns about having Federal financial assistance, scholarships, and grant programs reduced or discontinued.
Congresswoman Jacobs thanked them for their personal and powerful stories and vowed to share their perspectives and experiences with her colleagues in Washington, D.C.
While no specific solutions were discussed, the students were grateful for the opportunity to share their stories. The meeting also solidified the university's commitment to supporting its mission of teaching and research and advocating for the funding and support that members of the USD community rely on.
