The Brink Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of San Diego congratulates Brice Hamilton and his innovative business, DecompressX, for winning the grand prize of $15,000 in scholarships at the 2024 Fowler Business Concept Challenge. This annual competition, hosted by the Knauss School of Business, empowers students to transform their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

The Fowler Business Concept Challenge is more than just a competition; it's a journey of learning, growth, and innovation. Starting in September, aspiring entrepreneurs participate in a rigorous six-week pitch preparation program, culminating in a submission deadline in October. From the pool of applicants, sixteen promising candidates are selected to receive personalized pitch coaching throughout November, leading up to the grand finale in December.

This year, The Brink SBDC stepped up to provide expert guidance and mentorship to these ambitious students. The Brink SBDC, a valuable resource for both students and the community, offers free and confidential one-on-one advising and training to help founders launch successful businesses and secure funding. Under the leadership of Director Amy Duncan, a team of experienced Brink advisors, including Maisha Cobb, Bobby Edelman, Benton Moore, and Dr. Jo Polich, along with Junior Consultant Troy Moens, lent their expertise to help students refine their ideas and perfect their pitches.

"The energy and creativity of these students were truly inspiring," said Maisha Cobb, Brink SBDC advisor. "It was an honor to guide them through the process and witness their growth as entrepreneurs.I can’t wait to see what’s next for these ventures."

Bobby Edelman, another Brink SBDC advisor, added, "The Fowler Business Concept Challenge provides a fantastic platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and gain valuable experience in the world of business."

The Brink SBDC's involvement in the Fowler Business Concept Challenge highlights its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship within the USD community and beyond. The center provides a range of resources, including free and confidential one-on-one business advising, pitch preparation practice and advising, and market research to help entrepreneurs assess demand and size their markets.
