Nine USD Professors Receive Top Faculty Awards During Fall Convocation
Nine USD faculty members received top university awards for the 2024-25 academic year during Fall Convocation inside the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Theater on Sept. 10.
Five of the nine members received University Professorships, two were honored with Steber Professorships, one School of Law professor received the Herzog Endowed Scholar Award while another was honored as the Class of 1975 Endowed Professor.
The five University Professorships were given to Kathy K. Marsh, PhD, RN (Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science); Joseph Provost, PhD (College of Arts and Sciences); David F. Pyke, PhD (Knauss School of Business); Michael D. Ramsey, JD (School of Law); and Greg Severn, PhD (College of Arts and Sciences). A University Professorship is the highest academic honor bestowed university-wide and is given in recognition of outstanding scholarly achievements in teaching and research.
Two professors, Peter Anthony Mena, PhD (College of Arts and Sciences); and Alison Sanchez, PhD (Knauss School of Business) received the Clarence L. Steber Professorship. The Steber Professorship recognizes substantial contributions in the areas of teaching, research and service. This award, made possible through a gift by Clarence L. Steber, is limited, by the intent of the donor, to faculty recipients in Theology and Religious Studies and the Knauss School of Business.
The Herzog Endowed Scholar and Class of 1975 Endowed Professor honors are limited to eligible School of Law professors. Miranda Perry Fleischer, JD, received the Herzog Scholar recognition while Laurence Claus, DPhil, is the Class of 1975 Endowed Professor. The Herzog Endowed Scholar Award recognizes the meritorious teaching and scholarly productivity of a professor in the School of Law. The Class of 1975 Endowed Professorship, established by the Class of 1975 as its 25-year reunion gift to the Law School, recognizes meritorious teaching, leadership, and academic accomplishments of a School of Law professor.
“We can all take great pride and joy in the contributions of these nine faculty to their disciplines and to the University of San Diego, and we are delighted their outstanding achievements are being recognized with these prestigious awards,” said Senior Vice President and Provost Gail F. Baker, PhD.
