Toreros sweep San Francisco at Benedetti Diamond to secure outright conference crown

A dominant, focused effort on both sides of the ball led San Diego baseball (37-13, 20-4 WCC) to the outright 2024 West Coast Conference Regular-Season Championship on Sunday afternoon, beating San Francisco by a 7-2 margin at Benedetti Diamond to earn the regular-season crown for the first time since 2015.

Highlighted by Jakob Christian's 22nd home run of 2024, all nine Toreros starters notched a hit in the series finale, including four with two or more.

Left-hander Austin Smith turned in a solid outing for USD on the mound, starting the game with five innings of one run ball that saw him scatter three hits, work around four walks, and strike out three.

San Diego had clinched at least a share of the regular-season conference title on Saturday afternoon, but sealed sole possession of the 2024 championship by sweeping the Dons in Sunday's series finale.
