USD Alumnus Mike Brown Named Sacramento Kings Head Coach

Former University of San Diego guard Mike Brown ’92 (BBA) has been named the new head coach of the Sacramento Kings, the NBA announced Monday morning. 

Brown played basketball for two seasons at USD, starting 35 games at guard under USD Hall of Fame Former Head Coach Hank Egan. Prior to that, he played two seasons at Mesa Community College. He graduated in 1992 with a degree in business. 

Brown is currently an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors, and will remain with the team throughout their current playoff run. The 2008-09 NBA Coach of the Year, Brown was previously head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-10, 2013-14) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2011-13). 

Among the players Brown has coached: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

In 2020, Brown was named the head coach of the Nigerian national team, where he helped lead his team to a No. 1 ranking in Africa and an exhibition victory over the United States.
