Hispanic Heritage Month: Pedro Alonso Colio

Dr. Pedro Alonso Colio, DNP, FNP-C, ENP-C, is a nationally board-certified Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science.

He is also the lead instructor for the Emergency Nurse Practitioner concentration and is currently working on his PhD dissertation. Pedro grew up in the border town of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. He moved to the United States when he was entering high school. Learning to speak English was difficult, but with the help of sports he was able to pick up the language quickly. His grandmother’s illness prompted him to pursue a career in nursing and now he works in the Imperial Valley helping his community. Pedro says he is part of a very small percentage of Hispanic men who are working to achieve a doctorate degree in the medical field, a true inspiration for many.
