USD’s College of Arts and Sciences Hosts Virtual Mariachi Conference With Participants From All Over The U.S. and Mexico

SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego’s music department brings together the best mariachi ensembles in the nation for this year’s 9th annual Mariachi Conference taking place virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. 

The 1-day conference created by USD mariachi ensemble director, Serafin Paredes, has been modified from its 3-day workshop to a more hands-on single day session where students will have the opportunity to learn the beauty of mariachi music from top performers in the industry.  Special guests include renown musicians, Sergio Caratachea, Rigoberto Alfaro, Javier Rodriguez and many more.

What: 9th Annual Virtual USD Mariachi Conference (free and open to the public)

When: Friday, March 12, 2021 2p.m. – 4p.m. PST

Where: Via Zoom, link provided at registration - must register by March 10, 2021

Participants will have the opportunity to learn mariachi history, instrument technique and musical style all while interacting with professional and influential musicians at no cost.  Students will also film themselves performing mariachi music as part of a virtual concert to be held at a later date. 

The conference is free and open to the public, registration is required by March 10th
