Week of Virtual Events to Celebrate, Honor Military-Connected Population

The University of San Diego typically hosts an in-person ceremony to recognize and honor our entire military-connected community — active duty, veterans, retired, family members — on campus when Veterans Day occurs on Nov. 11.

However, due to present COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place, the USD Military and Veterans Program, in conjunction with Associated Student Government and other campus entities, will celebrate and honor our Toreros with virtual events this entire week, Nov. 9-13.

“This week, we recognize the service of our military veterans across campus. Thank you all for your service to the country and for continuing to serve in your own unique ways as Changemakers,” said Amanda Etter, director of USD’s MVP and a retired U.S. Marine veteran.

Here are this week’s events:

Nov. 9, 6:30 p.m., Zoom: Trivia Game Night — Get to know USD and our military-connected population through trivia and earn prizes, too. Join via this Zoom link.

Nov. 10, 4:30 p.m., Zoom: Making Meaning of Military Experience — This is a USD Alumni Veteran Network mixer event with conversation and connections about shared values of service. Sign up here.

Nov. 11, 12:30 p.m., Zoom: State of Military and Veterans Program — This Veterans Day event will include “A story of resilience and perseverance,” an update from MVP on enrollment and demographics, VA benefits and processing, Military-Connected Hub Envisioning 2024 grant and more. Nov. 13, 12:30 p.m., Zoom: Town Hall Talk — Updates for students, questions answered, discussion on VA Wellness App and developing Outdoor Adventures for military-connected students for the Spring. Join via this Zoom link.

Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m., Zoom: Comedy Night — Get ready to laugh out loud with some awesome comedians from our veteran and military-connected community! Join via this Zoom link.
