USD Votes: Take the Time Today, Register to Vote
Do you have about five minutes to spare today? Five very important minutes to do something for you and for others, too?
It's only five minutes — or less — but it will make a difference, enable you to express your opinion, have your voice heard, make a contribution to the betterment of our society and it will allow you to fulfill a valuable civic duty.
Today, National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 22, is a great day for all eligible members of the University of San Diego community — students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends — to do your part.
If you voted in the last election, check to make sure you are registered at the correct address and inform how you’d like to receive your voting information and ballot.
For those registering to vote for the first time, this is an extra special time. This is your opportunity to cast a vote for the President of the United States, senators and representatives, numerous roles such as mayor, city council, judges, attorneys, other key community roles and also important propositions that affect so many people and their communities.
If you are a first-time voter, please take this time to register to vote — whether that is in California or if you are choosing to vote in your home state.
Please go to the USD Votes website to register to vote.
Be sure to take time to review and know important dates connected to the state you are voting as not all states have a uniform deadline date to register.
Today, members of the all-volunteer USD Votes organization are hosting a virtual Q&A drop-in event from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. for those seeking information on how to register to vote.
Today is also the conclusion of some social media campaign challenges that were happening between Sept. 17-22 by USD Associated Student Government, Greek Life (sororities and fraternities), and USD Athletics (teams challenging other teams to get 100 percent registered to vote).
Additionally, make sure to follow @USDvotescampaign on Instagram and check out the USD Votes Campaign YouTube channel which include USD Votes-made individual videos concentrating on voter registration in specific states across the nation.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Unless you are voting ahead by mail, be sure to locate your polling place if voting in-person.
If you are in San Diego County, locate your polling place by zip code here. There is not an official polling place on the USD campus but there are some in Linda Vista and in the surrounding area.
