SAN DIEGO (January 16, 2020) – USD School of Law alumna Lyn Semeta, ’85 (JD), was recently sworn in as the new Mayor of Huntington Beach. A native of Seal Beach, Semeta’s career in politics began with an appointment to the Planning Commission for the City of Huntington Beach.

Semeta attended Huntington Beach High and UCLA before pursuing her legal education at USD School of Law. After graduation, she started her law practice in San Diego as a business and real property attorney. Semeta returned to Huntington Beach in 1996 with her husband Richard Semeta, ’85 (JD), to raise their two daughters. With a three-decade commitment to community service, Semeta’s experience includes serving on numerous nonprofit boards and providing pro bono service to battered women and homeless veterans. She is also an award-winning watercolor and mixed-media artist.
