Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Invites Community to Shine Its Light, Too

The annual University of San Diego Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and program, “Light Out of Darkness,” took place on the late afternoon of December 2 in front of the Paseo de Colachis.

The event invited the campus community to gather to see the lighting of the tree, enjoy some holiday refreshments, enjoy Christmas carols and hear a few words from USD President James T. Harris and student leaders.

Harris reflected on a recent international trip that included a visit to Jerusalem and a stop at one of the holiest Christian sites in the world, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and how it moved him. The undergraduate, graduate and law student speakers talked about bringing their communities together, the importance of helping others, being inclusive and celebrating this cherished holiday season.
