Hispanic Heritage Month: Celebrating Toreros Who are Making a Big Difference

The University of San Diego, in partnership with Entravision, has produced video stories with university ties to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, which has run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

These stories, each presented and offered in the Spanish language, offer a glimpse of how Toreros thrive in their respective lives and how they serve others in their community and represent their country and culture to the fullest. 

Imperial Valley Nurse Practitioner Students Bring Their Experience

Aksel Narvaez, currently in his second year of the BSN to DNP program at USD’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, and Amanda Cuellar, a two-time USD Nursing alumna as a ‘11 Family Nurse Practitioner and in ’19 as a Psychology/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Both Toreros are from the Imperial Valley area and are committed to bringing their education and expertise back to their community to provide residents with better healthcare.

Tavo Vildósola, Alumnus/Donor for the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering

Vildósola, a 2006 alumnus, supports his college alma mater’s Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering by sponsoring a senior design project done by graduating seniors in the engineering school. Most student projects have made components and parts of the Vildósola Racing off-road trucks more efficient.

Student-Athlete Karla Martinez Plays Basketball at USD and for her Home Country of Mexico

The sophomore guard on the women’s basketball team has not yet declared her major as a USD student, but she came to the university after a solid high school and club basketball playing career.
