It's Summer Send-Off Season at USD, Nationwide

The University of San Diego recently congratulated over 2,600 new Torero graduates, more than half of which were undergraduates. Most of those among USD’s class of 2019 are happy today, but they surely know what it was like when they first started college.

They had questions. They sought answers. They had more questions, surely, but no amount of questions pertaining to a situation where a student is entering a new school, a new level of education, in a new city and alongside a bevy of new people, seems enough.

That’s where a Summer Send-Off social comes in handy. Organized by USD’s Office of Parent and Family relations, this department conducts social events around the country each summer to welcome incoming first-year Toreros and their families to USD and all that it has to offer.

Generally, each SSO is hosted by parents and alumni and is attended by USD representatives, administrators, parent board members, current Torero parents and students in order to provide answers and information that can put the newest Torero students and families at ease.

There are numerous events each summer and in 2019, there are 27 scheduled, from San Diego to New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and Chicago to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Texas, two in Colorado (Denver and Boulder) and up and down the west coast.

The first Summer Send-Off of 2019 took place June 12 in Portland, Ore., and if those in the Pacific Northwest missed it, there is a Seattle SSO on July 23.

There will be four SSOs on the USD campus this summer. The first one is Sunday, June 23. The next one on campus is Wednesday, July 17 and the information will be presented en Español. There are two more SSOs locally in August, on Thursday, Aug. 15 and one designated for incoming USD students from Hawaii on Aug. 30.

Other California cities hosting a SSO are Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley (June 30), Palo Alto (July 9), Pleasanton (July 13), Pasadena (July 21), Rancho Santa Margarita (Aug. 4), Sacramento (Aug. 6), Santa Barbara (Aug. 8) Stockton (Aug. 11) and Los Angeles (Aug. 18).
