College of Arts and Sciences Hosts the 7th Annual Mariachi Conference and Showcase with Participants from all Over the U.S. and Mexico

The University of San Diego’s Music Department brings together the best mariachi ensembles in the nation.  Over 200 students will participate in the event, learning the beauty of mariachi music from top performers in the industry.

The three-day conference, created by USD Mariachi Ensemble Director, Serafin Paredes, consist of workshops and hands-on training, culminating each day with a showcase where students can display their talent, including USD’s Mariachi Ensemble also known as Toreros de USD.  Renown musician Sergio Caratachea from Guadalajara, Mexico and friends will also be performing.

The Mariachi Showcase is broken down into 3 main events:

Where         Shiley Theatre at Camino Hall – USD – 5998 Alcala Park – San Diego

Student mariachi groups will compete throughout the conference, three winners will be selected to play alongside professional musicians, during Saturday’s Professional Showcase.
