Details
An inter-disciplinary panel discussed the experience of young people (legally, economically, psychologically, educationally) as they go from "undocumented" to having grants of deferred action, work permits, and driver's licenses for the first time. Many young people who had dropped out of high school or left college without a degree are re-enrolling both to qualify for DACA, but also because they feel motivated, re-energized, and excited about the future for the first time in years. Part of the discussion touched on what the process of "becoming legal" means -- to an individual, to a family, to a community, and to greater society.
