Special Education Law and Advocacy Series (SELAS)

Thank you for your interest in USD School of Law Special Education Law and Advocacy Series (SELAS). In accordance with the University of San Diego guidelines, the law school will be closed to non-USD students and personnel until Thanksgiving.

Our SELAS program will not be scheduled until such time as these guidelines are lifted. We are in discussions to possibly offer the seminar virtually, but a decision will not be made until 2021, and we will send out more information when it becomes available.

Thank you for your time and interest in our programming.

With a goal of providing important and useful information on special education law and practice, the University of San Diego School of Law will offer its Special Education Law and Advocacy Series (SELAS) again this fall. This specialized program not only educates participants about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), but also offers practical, hands-on experience in special education advocacy. Past participants have included parents of children with disabilities, professionals working in related fields, school district staff, related services providers (such as speech and language pathologists), attorneys and others.

Appropriate for attorneys, paralegals, special education and other professionals, as well as parents, the series includes six law and practical training seminars, which may be taken individually or as a complete program. Each Saturday seminar is broken up into a morning and afternoon session with a one-hour lunch break.

The seminars are taught by experienced special education attorneys as well as a licensed clinical psychologist. Participants leave each seminar with knowledge in special education law as well as practical training that gives them hands-on skills. No textbook is required and each seminar includes handouts. A “Certificate of Completion” will be given to all enrollees who complete all six seminars.

Seminars are open to anyone who wishes to enroll.  MCLE credit is available for attorneys and paralegals at no additional charge.
