Dr. Schell is Executive Director of the California Global Education Project, which is one of the nine discipline-specific projects that form the statewide K-12 professional learning network known as the California Subject Matter Project. In this role, she provides leadership for global education in California and coordinates professional learning programs with university-based regional sites in Northern California, Central Valley, Santa Barbara, Long Beach, Orange County, and San Diego. Dr. Schell is committed to social, racial, and environmental justice in local and global communities, and values the role of educators in seeking solutions to our world’s most complex issues.

Professional Experience

Dr. Schell served as a teacher, district Social Studies resource teacher, and principal in San Diego Unified, and History-Social Science Coordinator at the San Diego County Office of Education. She taught preservice educators at San Diego State University and led the Linked Learning Cohort in collaboration with Linked Learning schools across San Diego school districts. Dr. Schell was liaison to National Geographic Education Foundation and continues to work with the California Geographic Alliance to promote geography education in K-12 classrooms. She currently serves as Co-Chair to the California Environmental Literacy Initiative and leads the California Global Education Network.
