Russell Fuller, PhD, joined the faculty of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies in 1992.  He is a professor of biblical studies with a specialty in the area of Hebrew Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the religion of ancient Israel.

Scholarly Work

Fuller is a specialist in the Hebrew Bible and the Dead Sea Scrolls. His research focus is in the textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible especially using the biblical and non-biblical Dead Sea Scrolls.  He was recently a consultant to the San Diego Natural History Museum for a major exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls.  He has published a critical edition of the manuscripts of the Twelve Minor Prophets in the series Discoveries in the Judean Desert.

Areas of Interest

Fuller has regularly taught the introductory course in biblical studies which he enjoys very much. He also teaches upper division courses in the area of Hebrew Bible including the Five Books of Moses and the Prophets of the Hebrew Bible.  He has also enjoyed teaching in the honors program both courses in his own field as well as team taught courses with colleagues from different academic disciplines.
