Remote Work Guidelines for Employees

Dear USD Employees:

As we accelerate the relocation of our students off campus due to the health emergency, we remain committed to protecting the health and safety of our valued employees in the face of further COVID-19 outbreak.

We are asking department heads and supervisors to develop remote work plans for their respective areas by Wednesday afternoon for review by their vice presidents. We will begin our remote work plan this week and reevaluate decisions the week of April 6 based on the nature of the health emergency at that time.

The goal of our remote work plan is to have minimal staff on campus while maintaining the operations of the university, particularly those that support educational, research and residential functions. Employees will be paid and receive their benefits during this remote work period.

While faculty have the option to facilitate remote teaching from home, they also may work in their campus offices, classrooms, labs and studios as necessary to carry out their remote teaching functions.

Employees should work with their supervisors and department heads to determine a schedule of staff to maintain operations. These work plans should be reviewed by Wednesday by your vice president.

It may make sense for several departments to begin working remotely immediately, following vice president-level approval.  Please review our checklist to set up your remote workstation.

Student employees should not come to work and focus on relocating and transitioning to remote learning. Through March 29, all student employees will be compensated based on average hours worked throughout the month of February. All student employees will be receiving a communication regarding this direction. We will continue to review student employee compensation and share more details in the near future.

One of our greatest strengths is the dedicated service of our faculty, staff and administrators to the USD community.  The Torero family is resilient and we thank you for all of your work during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,
