Monarch School Project

Throughout 2024, USD students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni will have the opportunity to donate, pack, and deliver hygiene products to the Monarch School community.

What is the Monarch School?

Located in Barrio Logan, the Monarch School is an institution that has served thousands of unhoused youth and families with comprehensive academic, social, and emotional programming in the San Diego community since 1987.

How can I participate?

There will be many opportunities to participate throughout the year. USD students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni will have opportunities to donate and pack kits during the Employee Picnic, Move In Weekend, and Homecoming Weekend. All donations will be collected and delivered to the Monarch School.

USD x Monarch School Partnership

Over the years the University of San Diego has developed long-standing partnerships with the Monarch School. President James Harris’ service on the Monarch School Board, and numerous academic units and service organizations have formed close connections with Monarch and its students.

USD Employee Picnic Donation Drive

Friday, June 7, 2024

Employees will be able to donate unopened, full-size (10oz or more) shampoos, conditioners, body washes, and body lotions. All employees who participate will receive an exclusive USD x Padres branded belt bag. Employees who bring more than (5) total items will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win (2) tickets to the Torero Bash on Saturday, August 3rd for the Padres vs. Rockies game.

Student Move-In Donation Drive

Saturday, August 31, 2024

During move in day, USD students and families are encouraged to participate in a hygiene donation drive for the Monarch School. Each Learning Community (LC) will have the opportunity to donate unopened, full-size (10oz or more) hygiene products at Camino/Founders, Valley Crossroads, and Maher Hall. Each Learning Community (LC) is assigned to donate the following: Collaborate, Illuminate, and Cultivate will donate shampoo and/or conditioner AND Advocate, Innovate, and Engage will donate body wash and/or body lotion. The LC that has the highest participation rate for donating products will win special edition Padres x USD belt bags.

Homecoming Kit Packing Event

Sunday, October 20, 2024

Alumni, families, students, staff, faculty and friends are invited to help pack hygiene kits to be delivered to the Monarch School. Lend a hand at a special kit packing event following the Alumni and Family Mass. Exact time and location TBD.
