Assistant Dean for Assessment Support

Paula S. Krist, Ph.D., works with all departments to support program assessment for faculty and staff. She coordinates school-wide assessment of student learning outcomes and the collection of data through direct and indirect measures. She supports SOLES efforts to continuously improve its programs and to ensure student learning. Dr. Krist is a member of the USD’s Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Steering Committee and the University Assessment Committee. She regularly presents workshops on assessment topics at regional and national conferences, including the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) 2011 Annual Forum and 2011’s WASC Academic Resource Conference and Program Review Workshop. She consults with national and international universities on assessment and accreditation. Prior to coming to the University of San Diego, Dr. Krist was the Director of Operational Excellence and Assessment Support at the University of Central Florida and the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Florida Institute of Technology. Dr. Krist’s research interests include program assessment, student learning, teaching excellence, and research methodologies. Her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is in Educational Psychology.

Graduate Assistant
Holly G. Hoffman, M.A., is originally from Nevada and has lived in San Diego since 2008. Holly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. Prior to starting the doctoral program in SOLES, Holly worked in the nonprofit sector as an operations and volunteer coordinator for Catholic Charities in Colorado.
During the first two years of her doctoral program, Holly volunteered as a research assistant in the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Research and has presented several papers at national nonprofit academic conferences. Deciding to rekindle her lifelong passion for education, she is now the graduate assistant for the Office of Assessment. Her research interests include higher education program assessment and student learning.
