Chamber Music Festivals
Directed by Dr. Angela Yeung, the University of San Diego Chamber Music Festival has provided a unique opportunity for chamber-music making and performance for musicians of all ages since 2006. Experienced chamber musicians enjoy the challenge of an intense coaching and performance schedule. Those with little or no chamber music experience appreciate the careful grouping of ensembles, selection of pieces, and guidance of experienced coaches. The gains from each festival surpass that of chamber music experience alone: musical appetites, self-confidence, and spirit of teamwork are sparked, and lasting friendships are formed.
Each year the Chamber Music Festival hosts a weekend festival at the end of February – Winter Chamber Heat (WCH), and a day/evening festival at the end of June and beginning of July – Summer Festival. Coaching sessions for both festivals are conducted by members of the San Diego Symphony and music faculty of the University of San Diego. Participants of advanced musical level may perform along with the coaches at concerts.
Since 2011, the Viol Consort Initiative (VCI) with guest artist Lisa Terry of New York has been added to the Summer Festival. The 2012 Summer Festival will be co-sponsored by the Greater San Diego Music Coterie.
Full biography of Festival coaches and past Festival activities may be found here.
Auditing is welcome. Donations to the Chamber Music Festival are tax-deductible as allowable by law. Please contact Dr. Angela Yeung at ayeung@sandiego.edu for details.

Thanks to support from Viol West and San Diego-area viol players, the 2012 Summer Chamber Festival will collaborate with Viol Consort Initiative (VCI) to give all day participants a taste of the viol at no additional cost. Viol Trial, a daily exploration on the viola da gamba, will be offered during the week of July 1. Evening participants will have an opportunity to try the viol in the morning of July 4.
