Susie Hutchins, DNP, RN, CNE

Susie Hutchins
Dr. Hutchins received her BSH from Villa Maria College in Erie, PA; her MSN from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro; and her DNP from the University of Florida in Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Hutchins has twelve years teaching experience in Medical-Surgical and Maternal-Child Nursing. She is certified as a Nurse Educator, an Inpatient Obstetrical Nurse, and in Advanced Fetal Monitoring. Dr. Hutchins has over thirty years experience as a Labor and Delivery Nurse.

For her DNP Research Project, Dr. Hutchins examined, “Predicting Success of First- Semester ADN Nursing Students Using GPA and Reading Comprehension Scores.” Her clinical research for her Master’s Thesis was, “Predicting Early Breastfeeding Attrition.” Her publications include:
Dick, M., Evan, M., Arthurs, J., Barnes,J., Caldwell, R., Hutchins, S., & Johnson, L. (2001). Predicting early breastfeeding attrition. Journal of Human Lactation 18, 21- 29.

Dr. Hutchins is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honorary Society of Nursing and also was a board member of the Florida Board of Nursing before coming to San Diego.

Dr. Hutchins considers herself to be a dedicated nurse educator and an advocate of advanced education for nurses. In addition to her strong professional commitment to nurse education and practice, Dr. Hutchins loves the outdoors and participates in runs and bike races to raise money for the Heart Fund, Multiple Sclerosis, Alopecia, March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society.
