Lexis
Summer
Lexis offers students unlimited use of Lexis+ AI for any research purpose, educational or commercial/job related. No additional steps are necessary for access beyond having a Lexis ID.
Graduates
Graduating students automatically have access to Lexis for 6 months after graduation. Graduates have access to most of the same content and features available during law school, excluding public records, Protégé, Law360 and Practical Guidance. Signing up for the Lexis ASPIRE Program provides 12 months of free access to federal and state cases, codes, regulations, law reviews, Shepard's, and Matthew Bender treatises to graduates who are engaged in verifiable 501(c)(3) public interest work.
Westlaw
Summer
Students can use Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, over the summer for non-commercial research for up to 180 hours/month over the summer. Students can turn to these resources to gain understanding and build confidence in their research skills, but they cannot use them in situations where they are billing a client. Examples of permissible uses for an academic password including the following:
- Summer coursework
- Research assistant assignments
- Law Review or Journal research
- Moot Court research
- Clinical work
- Externship sponsored by the school
Students do not have to do anything to gain access to these tools over the summer.
Graduates
Graduating students will continue to have access for 6 months after graduation if they sign up for Grad Elite Plus. This program allows graduates to use Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw, Practical Law and Practice Ready solutions for non-commercial research for up to 60 hours/month. Graduates can turn to these resources to gain understanding and build confidence in their research skills, but they cannot use them in situations where they are billing a client. In addition, graduates get access to job searching databases on Westlaw and TWEN for 1 hour/month.
Bloomberg Law
Summer
Bloomberg Law accounts remain fully active over the summer for registered law students, including access for research conducted during summer employment (please contact the LRC reference desk if you need an ID).
Graduates
Graduates automatically keep full access to Bloomberg Law through their individual account for 6 months following graduation.
CEB OnLaw Pro
Summer
There are no restrictions on academic accounts for CEB OnLaw Pro over the summer (please contact the LRC reference desk for information on setting up an account).
Graduates
Graduates get 18 months of free access to CEB OnLAW Pro. Academic accounts include unlimited continuing legal education (CLE) and lawyer skills programs in addition to California practice guides and primary law.
