Professional Experience
Professor Thornton is a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice where he litigates civil rights cases in federal courts in California. Previously, Professor Thornton was a litigation associate at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Michael M. Anello of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. While in law school, Professor Thornton served as Editor-in-Chief of the San Diego Law Review, wrote a published journal article on the economic implications of the First Amendment, worked as a teaching assistant for Legal Writing & Research, and externed for a U.S. District Court judge, a California Superior Court judge, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Professor Thornton received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
