Summer Programs
USD's summer study abroad programs are open to USD law students and, circumstances permitting, students enrolled in ABA-accredited and foreign law schools who are in good academic standing and have completed at least one year of full-time or part-time study. These programs provide intensive training in international, comparative and foreign law, while introducing American students to the legal institutions of another country. At the same time, students from Commonwealth and civil law traditions experience American legal viewpoints and problem-solving methods. Programs bring together students and expert faculty for a rich experience of academic and cultural interchange.
Scholarship funds are available for current USD law students who attend a USD Law Summer Study Abroad program. To be considered for a scholarship, USD law students must complete the International Study Abroad Scholarship form. For priority consideration, please submit this form by March 30, 2023.
If you are interested in participating in one of the following ABA-accredited summer study abroad programs, please see information below and contact Graduate and International Programs.
Student Experiences
"...being in a city full of intellectual property history and case material was fascinating. From walking by the Yves St. Laurent offices and fashion museums on a casual walk through the city and then reviewing one of their major IP disputes in class, I truly felt immersed in the issues presented."
Maryam A. - Summer 2019 Paris Program
"The program blew away even my highest academic expectations and gaining this unique international perspective on the study of law globally will undoubtedly exceed any professional gains I would have otherwise received from a traditional 1L summer experience."
Cory D. – Summer 2019 Paris Program
“This was a life changing trip that I would recommend and encourage all first-year law students to take. I learned so much about myself, the law, and the country I was visiting."
Brittany H. - Summer 2019 London Program

Paris is one of the most important centers of international law practice in the world, and the front from which the Civil Law system flowed. Its monuments, museums and restaurants make it one of the most pleasant cities in the world. Established in 1973 as the first summer law program on the continent of Europe, our Paris program focuses on comparative and international law.
