Mr. Borrello currently works as a Principal Controls Engineer at Philips Healthcare in Carlsbad, CA. as a technical contributor in the design and development of medical products for hospital patient respiratory life support.

Previous to Philips he worked as a Staff Control Systems Engineer in the Algorithms Group at Cymer, Inc. supporting Deep Ultraviolet laser product development. Prior to Cymer, Mr. Borrello was the Manager of Systems and Controls at Luminous Medical Corporation in Carlsbad, CA helping to pioneer new medical device technologies for the automatic and frequent monitoring of blood glucose in the ICU. Before Luminous, Mr. Borrello served in technical and managerial roles for the design and development of control systems in both defense and medical industries including such applications as pointing, acquisition and controls for an air to air laser communications system, a shipboard inertial stabilization system for a rapid optical tracking telescope and pressure and flow controls for critical care ventilators. His M.S.E.E. (1987, University of Southern California, Los Angeles) is in Control Systems and he is a leading expert and consultant on the simulation software tool, VisSim. His primary interests are in the modeling and simulation of dynamic systems and the practical application of VisSim for rapid hardware-in-the-loop controls for proof-of-concept and feasibility testing.

Mr. Borrello is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and has served as the San Diego Chairman for the IEEE Control Systems Society and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He has authored 10 technical papers, mostly on ventilator control systems and shares nine patents in medical device technologies.

Specialties: Design and development of controls for critical care ventilators, Control of fluid pressures, flows and mixes, dynamic systems analysis and simulations, pointing, acquisition, tracking and stabilization systems, hardware-in-the-loop simulations for feasibility demonstrations, product and systems development.
