Ours is not a traditional classroom setting. Here, students tinker with things, they collaborate and share ideas and they have the freedom to make mistakes, learn from those mistakes and then build, test and create even more innovative products and solutions that could transform lives. Come take a peek!

Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering
Where collaboration and innovation come to life
The Belanich Engineering Center
At the Belanich Engineering Center, our facilities integrate cutting-edge tools, equipment and technology within distinct spaces that follow the engineering life cycle from concept to finished product.
ASML Ideation Space
We start with the ASML Ideation Space, a reconfigurable idea center that provides study spaces, teleconferencing, conference rooms and a movable panel grid system with writable white boards — all designed to encourage collaboration and exploration.
Donald's Garage
Next is Donald's Garage, named after the late renowned engineer, Donald P. Shiley, where students can prototype and test their ideas, using everything from 3D printing to circuit board printing, to build and demonstrate an early-generation product.
Fabrication Lab
The fabrication lab offers a safe and spacious work space that brings student projects to life using machines to weld, laser-cut and shape metals and plastics. Worktables are situated throughout the space for students to assemble their projects.
Machine Shop
The machine shop includes a wood shop and is an empowering and exciting space that provides students with safe access to equipment, allowing senior design teams to create and engineer solutions for their projects.
Interdisciplinary Lab
The newly renovated lab supports the school's embedded software programs across the computer science, electrical and integrated engineering departments. This interdisciplinary, collaborative space also serves as a backbone for the capstone design program.
Chang Innovation Lab
Gifted generously by the Chang Family, this space serves as an innovation hub for entrepreneurship classes and interdisciplinary collaboration for teams working on their capstone design projects, often in partnership with their industry mentors.
Electrical Engineering Lab
Purpose-built for electrical engineering, the revamped lab combines form and function. New windows provide ample natural light, while a full suite of modern flooring, modular furniture and advanced AV/IT infrastructure creates an elite technical environment.
Cyber - Computer Lab
In the computer lab, students receive personal guidance from devoted faculty to learn how to use both computational thinking and abstract reasoning to help hone their problem solving skills and execute software solutions that advance our society.
