The Computer Science Department within the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE) at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for all levels of tenure/tenure-track faculty and professors of practice that can help the school develop stronger leadership and teaching capacity in artificial intelligence and/or data science. All specializations within computer science are invited to apply with the ability to connect their specialization to AI/DS. We are seeking a cluster of faculty members who will work in support of USD’s vision by working as teacher-scholars to address humanity’s urgent challenges and develop the next generation of changemaking computer scientists and engineers.
The computer science department supports an undergraduate program in computer science with approximately 200 majors and minors. Our CS students are highly-engaged and actively contribute to the mission of the department and the University. We have active ACM, cyber security, and AI student organizations. Our faculty are devoted to challenging and inspiring students to learn the technical skills, global perspective, social awareness and leadership ability needed to become change-making computer scientists. Successful candidates to the Computer Science department will hold a PhD in Computer Science or related field.
Preference will be given to candidates who are committed to outstanding teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts setting as well as to developing and sustaining an active undergraduate-oriented research program. Additional preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to supervising senior capstone projects, and are committed to advancing the university mission of creating a diverse and inclusive community and preparing leaders who are dedicated to ethical conduct and compassionate service. Candidates from all areas of specialization will be considered with a successful candidate bringing expertise in data science and/or artificial intelligence as it applies to their area of specialization.
