Certificate in Nonprofit Management
Channel Your Business-Savvy to Serve Others
Learn how to apply your business mindset to the nonprofit sector with our Certificate in Nonprofit Management, available to MBA students. You’ll gain a better understanding of the nonprofit world, learn how to start and operate your own nonprofit organization and gain valuable hands-on experience by collaborating with a nonprofit of your choice.
- Upon departmental approval, you can take a maximum of six units of coursework from the USD School of Law, USD School of Leadership and Education Sciences or other USD graduate program to count as electives toward your MBA. As such, six units may be taken from the School of Leadership and Education Sciences' Nonprofit Leadership and Management graduate program. These courses include:
- LEAD 501: Nonprofit Management Fundamentals, 3 units (Fall semester only). This course is a pre-requisite for all other nonprofit management courses, so you will need to take it first or concurrently with other nonprofit courses.
- 3 additional units of coursework which you can find by visiting the SOLES website. (see website for course listings)
- The certificate requirement is nine credit units. Students may choose to take three additional units outside of the MBA program or ask your academic advisor which MBA courses are approved to satisfy the remaining three units.
- As an MBA student wishing to enter the nonprofit management certificate program, you do not need to complete the SOLES application process. Acceptance into the MBA program fulfills admission requirements.
- At this time, only five MBA students can enroll in the program each year.
