The University of San Diego uses social media as a marketing and communications tool to engage audiences, including but not limited to, prospective students, current students, donors, alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and the broader community.
General Rules
Accuracy: Ensure all posts are accurate and honest. Avoid misleading or misinforming your audience with incorrect or ambiguous information.
Attribution: Always credit assets shared on social media and ensure you have the necessary rights before posting content.
Confidentiality: Do not share confidential or private information on social media. Always adhere to FERPA and HIPAA policies, and consult a supervisor before posting any potentially sensitive content.
Torero Spirit: Remember that each social media channel represents the University of San Diego. Collectively, they shape the perception of USD. Our communications should be consistent, unified and reflect our Torero spirit and pride. Content should be presented in a manner that’s professional, positive and uplifting whenever possible, and/or provides insights into an element of the USD experience.
Moderating: Social media managers must regularly monitor comments and direct messages. While audiences can express negative feedback, it should be addressed respectfully from a customer-service perspective. Content containing slurs, personal insults, profanity, obscenity, or threats is not tolerated and should be managed in accordance with the Rules of Conduct.
Abuse: Report any inappropriate behavior on USD-managed social media accounts to socialmedia@sandiego.edu. For threatening or dangerous posts, immediately contact P-Safe and notify the appropriate authorities.
