JD Immersion Program
Designed for First-Generation Law Students: Build Confidence, Build Community
The JD Immersion Program at the University of San Diego School of Law is a pre-orientation experience designed to support and empower incoming first-generation law students. The program offers an early introduction to the law school environment, helping students feel more prepared, connected, and confident as they begin their legal education.
Through skills workshops, faculty-led classes, and mentoring opportunities, participants gain an inside look at the academic expectations of law school by learning how to approach case reading, legal analysis, and classroom discussion with greater clarity. Along the way, they also connect with peers, professors, and upper-division students in a welcoming and inclusive setting.
By offering insight into what to expect and how to succeed in law school, the JD Immersion Program helps first-generation students start their law school journey with confidence and support.
I’ve had the privilege of watching first-generation students grow in confidence and connection before the semester even begins. This program is more than just an introduction to law school—it’s a launchpad. Our goal is to ensure students feel seen, supported, and empowered as they begin this journey. We believe that with the right tools and community, every student can thrive.
