Student Innovation

As part of the capstone design experience, our senior design courses offer students hands-on experience solving real-world engineering and technical problems. Students apply knowledge learned throughout their undergraduate career to execute the full cycle of the design process.

Through our engineering entrepreneurship program, we are harnessing and nurturing students' entrepreneurial spirit, creating a formalized pathway where startups and social enterprises flourish — emphasizing curiosity, connections and creating value to build a new world economy.

To be effective inventors and practitioners, engineers and computer scientists must be in touch with the societal challenges that are affecting people's experiences. By looking at problems through the eyes of all stakeholders, Changemaking Engineers are able to do true justice in the world.

Recognizing the importance of integrating undergraduate research within the educational experience, USD engineering and computer science students are helping to pioneer innovative technologies while working with new discoveries to expand their practical and theoretical base of knowledge.

The Industry Scholars Program is supported by industry representatives and faculty and seeks to infuse high-performing students with professional skills and values, including workshops, site visits and internships to train scholars in networking, interviewing and other soft skills.
