History & Purpose
In 2019, student leaders from three culturally-based Greek-lettered organizations at USD - Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Incorporated, Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc., and Sigma Theta Psi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated - came together to create the Fraternity and Sorority Multicultural Council (FSMC). Experiences of racism, microaggressions, and other forms of exclusion from Panhellenic, IFC, FSL, and the USD campus at large led to the creation of this new Council with the stated mission to "allow the culturally-based fraternities and sororities to thrive in a safe environment that will promote inclusion and celebrate diversity."
The council name has changed over the following years, from Lettered Multicultural Council (LMC) in 2021 and then to Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) in 2024, to reflect the council's values and aspirations, aligning our council with the culture-based fraternal experiences found at peer institutions.
The Multicultural Greek Council continues to grow, develop, and make changes within the community. For more information or to connect with MGC, email usdmgcpresident@gmail.com.
