Chapter Recognition
Recognition with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life involves fulfilling both the registration and good standing requirements set by the University.
Registration
Per the USD Student Organization Handbook, all fraternity and sorority chapters must complete the annual registration process for student organizations. Registration is managed by the Office of Student Activities and Involvement (SAI).
Good Standing
Per the USD Fraternity and Sorority Life Guidelines, "good standing" refers to the fulfillment of minimum organizational requirements at all times, including but not limited to relational and administrative aspects.
Recognized FSL Chapters
All fraternities and sororities listed are officially recognized by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, having met both the University’s registration and good standing requirements.
USD's Sororities belong to the following councils:
Panhellenic sororities belong to the College Panhellenic Association (CPA).
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which provides additional community-building and leadership opportunities for multicultural fraternities and sororities.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) refers to the eight fraternities at the University of San Diego that are member organizations of the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC).
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which provides additional community-building and leadership opportunities for multicultural fraternities and sororities.

If there is a chapter/organization you are interested in that is not listed above, it may fall under any of the below categories.
Chapter that is an Unrecognized Group
An unrecognized organization often operates or exists "off campus" and does not comply with the University of San Diego’s policies, regulations, or expectations. Although these organizations may appear to function like recognized chapters, they are NOT affiliated with USD. These organizations have not been recognized by the institution OR have had their recognition revoked by the national organization and/or institution for various reasons, including such things as hazing, alcohol, and drug abuse, risk management violations, and failure to comply with University policies and expectations.

Chapter in the Expansion/Extension Process
Before new chapters gain recognition status, they must complete the expansion process as outlined on the FSL Expansion page. Email fsl@sandiego.edu if you have any questions about a chapter you believe to be in this process or are interested in bringing a new chapter to campus.
Chapter that is not a Social Fraternity/Sorority
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life supports social fraternities and sororities, including chapters that belong to the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and College Panhellenic Association. Non-social fraternities and sororities may include professional honors societies and service organizations supported directly by the Office of Student Activities and Involvement. All registered student organizations can be found on ToreroOrgs with their contact information.
