Our Case Managers

Student Support at USD
Working in collaboration with various campus and community partners, our case managers embody and promote USD's culture of care by prompting self-reflection, sharing information and resources, fostering connections, and empowering students to identify options and be their own advocates.
Get in Touch
If you know a student who would benefit from being connected with a case manager, our team accepts referrals of students who are experiencing challenging situations. We typically reach out to those students identified in our referral system within one to two business days.
If you need to make an emergency referral, please contact Public Safety at 619-260-2222, or dial 911. An emergency referral is appropriate when students are in imminent danger of hurting themselves or others.

You can refer a student to our office by filling out the referral form.
During your one-on-one meeting with a case manager, we will partner with you to:
- Discuss any obstacles you are currently facing or barriers you may be coming up against.
- Identify campus resources central to your success.
- Create an action plan with clear goals to map out your success for the academic year.
Case managers are non-clinical professionals and mandated reporters at USD, which means our conversations are private but not confidential. Case managers only share information with other professionals on campus and university officials on a need-to-know basis. While we certainly will use discretion when handling sensitive information, we are required to report information about any incident of sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking or relationship violence, as well as any threat of harm to self or others, to the appropriate parties at USD whether the incident occurred on or off campus.
If a student prefers to speak with a confidential resource on campus, we are happy to connect them with either a psychological counselor in the Counseling Center, a pastoral counselor in University Ministry, or a confidential CARE Advocate.
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), case managers cannot share any student information — including information related to their academic records, grades, class schedule or financial aid — with anyone who is not a university employee without the student’s written permission. This includes parents and supporters.
We do welcome parents and supporters to collaborate with us by filling out the referral form linked above if they are concerned about their student, or by emailing us directly to request that a case manager reach out to their student. Please understand that our priority is supporting your students and we may be limited in our ability to follow up with you as a reporting party due to FERPA.
The case managers maintain a public list of on-campus and community economic resources.
If you would like to suggest a free or low-cost resource for inclusion; have questions about any of the resources featured in the list or how to access them; or have a need or concern that isn’t addressed by the resources included in the list, please contact the case managers directly for assistance.
