Facilitated by Sarah Diamond
(1/2) Community Resilience Training
The Community Resilience Model (CRM) teaches participants somatic-based skills to better manage stress and trauma responses.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to understand how neurobiology impacts our trauma responses.
- Participants will be able to track sensations throughout their body.
What we will cover:
- [10 minutes] Introduction to CRM and the Resiliency Zone (the zone in which we are able to handle day-to-day stressors)
- [40 minutes] Skills practice: tracking (recognizing sensations within the nervous system), resourcing (describing a person, place, or thing that provides comfort, joy, peace, or happiness), grounding (making physical contact with a surface), and help now (quick skills to bring us back into our resiliency zone)
- [10 minutes] Wrap-up/questions
Facilitated by IC Ulep, Mandy Womack, and campus partners
(2/2) Practical Scenarios Training
When presented with a student situation, we typically know to ask "what happened"? and "how can I support"? What we may not always consider are the questions to ask after that. This session aims to engage in deepening our care students to better equip them in navigating their situations.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to develop questions from a student-centered framework.
- Participants will be able to identify relevant on-campus resources for student referrals.
What we will cover:
- [10 minutes] Asynchronous materials providing basic counseling skills and methods of support.
- [50 minutes] In-person opportunities to practice facilitated dialogue with pre-made scenarios, or scenarios made specifically for your group. There will also be opportunities to learn from others and provide feedback in developing deep conversation with students.
- [10 minutes] Large-Group Debrief
