Financial awards can range from $500 to $14,000, with an average of $2,000.
Most Alumni Association scholarships require a FAFSA on file, but not all. Please review the eligibility requirements for each scholarship before applying.
Yes, DACA students with a CA Dream Act or USD Dream Act application on file can apply to several scholarships offered by the Alumni Association.
Students who withdraw, or take an official leave of absence, will not receive awarded scholarship funds when/if they return to USD. Funds must be used in the year the recipient was selected and will not carry over upon return.
Yes, you are encouraged to apply to multiple scholarships. However, each scholarship has a different essay prompt that will need to be answered for consideration.
Each application should take 20-30 minutes, not including the written essay component.
No, please do not include your full/partial name or any identifying personal information. Essays that include identifying information will be marked ineligible.
No, please write the full name of the organization/employment you are listing in your application and/or essay.
Yes, be prepared to list at least one campus activity (i.e. employment, student club(s), organization(s) or committee(s), Greek Life affiliation(s), sport(s) etc.) and one community service activity and/or employment while attending USD.

Recipients will be notified of awards in the summer and funds will be distributed for the following academic year. (e.g. recipient is notified of award in August, funds will be distributed in September)

Alumni can support ongoing scholarships by making a gift to the scholarship of their choice or by volunteering to read and rank applications.
Sign up to volunteer! Alumni volunteers read and rank approximately 10 student scholarship applications, during a two week period. Participation can be done remotely as all reading and scoring is completed online. Total time commitment: 5 hours.
Yes, alumni can create/name a scholarship with a minimum gift of $5,000. Please contact the Office of Special Gifts and Scholarships at (619) 260-4510 for additional information.
