It is through the generosity of alumni, parents and friends — like you, who believe strongly in USD — that this institution is able to meet the most urgent challenges facing our world. Your gift, of any size, allows us to provide critical, current-use scholarships to students who are making a difference every day on our campus, in our community, across the nation and around the world. Please consider supporting one, or multiple, of the funds stewarded by the Alumni Association. From our family to yours, thank you.
The Alumni Connections Fund supports the Alumni Association with unrestricted funds as it fulfills its mission of Engaging and Enriching the Torero Community for Life. Contributions will enhance programs and engagement efforts to strengthen the University of San Diego today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
Created, funded and directed by fellow USD alumni, the USD Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund was launched in 2006 to provide much-needed scholarships for USD students. Recipients of this scholarship are current USD undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, strong academic merit and who give back to the USD and local community.
The Daniel L. Burkett '06 Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Danny Burkett '06, who graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the award of Academic Excellence in Business Economics. While at USD, he was a member of the prestigious Alcalá Club, Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. Danny's magnetic personality allowed him to touch the lives of many people and create a special and lasting impact at the University of San Diego.
The Kyle O'Connell Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Kyle O'Connell, the son of Michael '87 and Julie '88 (Belfiore) O'Connell. Kyle passed away on February 6, 2005 just shy of his 10th birthday. Kyle's brave fight against brain cancer inspired a group of USD alumni to establish this scholarship in 2008 with the purpose to inspire students to find a cure for cancer, to provide comfort and hope for patients and their families, and to advocate and motivate others to become active in the fight against cancer.
The Senior Class Legacy Scholarship program began in 1989 with three seniors (Sam Attisha '89, David Reiling '89 and Kerry O'Heany Reiling '89) with a vision to leave a legacy at the University of San Diego. This scholarship was created by students for students, ensuring a USD experience for future Toreros. As part of the original vision of the scholarship, special consideration is given to Torero students who have financial need and are making a lasting impact at USD.
Created in 2004, this scholarship is named in honor of the first graduate from the College for Women, Therese Truitt Whitcomb '53. Alumni continually express their gratitude to the University for the excellent academic, spiritual, physical and emotional development that USD provided; for this reason, alumni created this scholarship so that future students will have the opportunity to attend USD.
