New Faculty Orientation Schedule

In August, new faculty will recieve a free parking code and instructions to use on orientation days. You will be eligible to buy a regular parking pass on September 1. Visit the Office of Parking Services website to purchase your annual pass, learn about daily parking rates or explore alternative transportation options. Email parking@sandiego.edu with any questions.

Business casual attire is suggested. San Diego often experiences hot, dry “Santa Ana” conditions in August. Consider bringing a sweater or light jacket as the AC will be on indoors.

Yes! Coffee and continental breakfast will be offered each morning and lunch will be provided. We will make every effort to consider dietary needs based on survey responses. Please feel free to bring your own beverage or snacks.

Yes, this program will only be offered on USD’s campus. New faculty are expected to attend in person. For the safety of our community, please see up-to-date policies and guidelines.

ITS will also hold an additional drop-in session for new faculty on Thursday, August 20 from 10am-noon in Maher Hall 186. Faculty can receive up to $2,000 for attendance at orientation ($500 per full Provost session attended). Full participation in each NFO session and successful completion of your Plagiarism Certification are required to receive your orientation stipend. Plagiarism completion reports should be emailed to Kit Brawner to kbrawner@sandiego.edu. Stipends and transition assistance of $2,000 for eligible faculty will be included in your first paycheck.

Information and guidance about the Appointment, Reappointment, Rank and Tenure (ARRT) process is unit-specific. Faculty should speak with their dean, department chair or faculty mentor within their unit/department about ARRT concerns.

The ARRT policy for all units, except Law, can be found online. The ARRT policy for Law is also available online. (USDOne login is required to access faculty policies.) Please check with your unit and/or department for policies that govern ARRT for your school or discipline.

Visit the Institutional Review Board (IRB) website or email irb@sandiego.edu for questions related to research activities involving human subjects initiated by faculty, students and administrators.

We are unable to offer childcare through orientation. However, USD does offer some childcare resources on the Childcare Solutions webpage.

Only USD employees are eligible to attend NFO so we are unable to accommodate guests.
