About Kroc IPJ

Learning. To end violence.

The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ) launched in 2001 with a vision of active peacebuilding. In 2007, the Kroc IPJ became part of the newly established Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, a global hub for peacebuilding and social innovation.

The core of the Kroc IPJ mission is to co-create learning with peacemakers — learning that is deeply grounded in the lived experience of peacemakers around the world, that is made rigorous by our place within a university ecosystem and that is immediately and practically applied by peacemakers to end cycles of violence.

2021-2023 Kroc IPJ Strategic Blueprint

Across all of our work, the core of the Kroc IPJ’s mission remains the same: to end cycles of violence through evidence-based, justice-centered solutions. This mission is inspired by Sustainable Development Goal 16’s call to significantly reduce all forms of violence and to build more peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. Read the Kroc IPJ’s Strategic Blueprint 2021-2023 to learn more about our work.

About Our Approach: Learning With

Through the Learning With process, the Kroc IPJ develops evidence that is deeply grounded in the lived experience of our partners, that is made rigorous by our place within a university ecosystem, and that creates practical strategies that can be immediately applied to end cycles of violence.

Ending Cycles of Violence: The Kroc IPJ Framework

The goal of this paper is to articulate our theories of violence prevention in order to examine and assess them over time. Such testing of core theories is crucial if the Kroc IPJ is to successfully develop and champion evidence-based, justice-centered solutions to ending cycles of violence.
