Dual PNP/FNP Preparation Across Pediatric and Family Primary Care Overview
The Dual Pediatric/Family Nurse Practitioner (PNP/FNP) specialty track prepares advanced practice nurses to deliver comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, with focused expertise in both pediatric and family practice settings. This dual preparation equips students with the clinical knowledge and skills needed to care for infants, children, adolescents, and families in diverse outpatient and community-based environments. By integrating pediatric-focused care with family primary care principles, the track supports a flexible scope of practice and prepares graduates to meet the evolving needs of patients across age groups and care settings.
Program Outcomes
Graduates of the Dual Pediatric/Family Nurse Practitioner specialty track are prepared to:
- Deliver evidence-based primary care to pediatric and family populations across the lifespan
- Assess, diagnose, and manage common acute and chronic conditions in primary care settings
- Provide developmentally appropriate, patient- and family-centered care
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams to coordinate comprehensive care
- Apply ethical, legal, and professional standards in advanced nursing practice
- Use clinical evidence and health technologies to support safe, high-quality care
Certification Eligibility
Graduates are eligible to sit for certification as a:
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (CPNP) through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
- Family Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified (FNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or
- Family Nurse Practitioner, Certified (FNP-C) through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)
