Our post-graduate certificate programs are designed for post-licensure nurses with a master’s or doctoral degree. The Conflict Resolution for Health Care Leaders certificate is the only program that does not require a nursing background.
For Post Master's RNs
Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate
This advanced certificate program prepares nurses to become Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) in adult-gerontology care, with specialty areas such as critical care, emergency care, perinatal care, oncology, and more. With this certificate, you will:
- Develop in-depth expertise in physiology, pharmacology, and your specialty area
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions
- Support bedside nurses and lead practice improvements
- Apply evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes
- Identify gaps in health care delivery and design and evaluate interventions
- Prepare for California CNS certification and national CNS certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN)
For Post-Master’s APRNs
Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate
This certificate is designed for advanced practice registered nurses who want to expand their expertise in providing comprehensive primary care to individuals and families across the lifespan.
Eligibility
- Applicants must already hold an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification.
With this certificate, you will:
- Build advanced clinical skills for managing a wide range of primary care conditions
- Gain hands-on experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
- Apply evidence-based care and health promotion strategies
- Be eligible for national FNP certification through ANCC or AANP and California nurse practitioner licensure
For Post-Master’s APRNs
Primary Care Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate
This certificate is designed for advanced practice registered nurses who want to expand their expertise in psychiatric-mental health care using a holistic approach that addresses both mental and physical health.
Eligibility
- Applicants must already hold an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric conditions across the lifespan
- Integrate mental and physical health care in primary care settings
- Apply evidence-based interventions and therapeutic strategies
- Be eligible for national PMHNP certification through ANCC
For Interdisciplinary Health Care Leaders
Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution for Healthcare Leaders
The 9-unit Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution for Healthcare Leaders is offered jointly by the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies. Classified as a Main Campus program, coursework is delivered in a synchronous/asynchronous format that combines live instruction with flexible online learning. The next cohort begins in Fall 2027. With this certificate, you will:
- Develop practical skills to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict in health care and related settings.
- Apply evidence-based frameworks and hands-on tools for team collaboration
- Build leadership skills that foster healthy workplace cultures and improve organizational outcomes.
