Master of Science in Nursing Program

Director's Welcome

Susan Instone, DNSc, RN, CPNP Welcome to the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) Program. We invite you to attend our Open House, held each semester, to learn more about our primary care Nurse Practitioner, acute care Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, and administrative Executive Nurse Leader MSN. Our students come from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, some with many years of experience and others brand new to our profession. Many of our faculty, all of whom are board certified in their specialty, are recognized leaders at local, state, national, and international levels. They are eager to share their expertise with students in a collegial learning environment designed to prepare the next generation of Advanced Practice Nurses.

To support our faculty and students, our APN program has state of the art clinical resources and a broad network of clinical affiliations to enhance learning. Our Standardized Patient Examination Program, nationally recognized as one of only a few available to NP students around the country, will be expanded to other APN students in the near future. This method of learning allows students to "see" actors playing the role of patients with real life health concerns in a laboratory setting just like an examining room in an actual office or clinic. Our faculty also incorporate Problem Based Learning into the classroom setting, using real cases to foster knowledge and diagnostic reasoning.

USD's APN Program has a reputation for excellence, expert faculty, wonderful staff, innovative teaching-learning methods, and an extensive network of APN alumni. We hope you will contact us soon to learn more.

Best wishes,

Susan Instone, DNSc, APRN, CPNP
