Theresa Asmus is a highly accomplished advanced practice registered nurse and educator who serves as the Assistant Director for DNP/NP Programs, Clinical Faculty Lead, and NP Simulation Coordinator at the University of San Diego’s Hahn School of Nursing. In her role, she leads advanced health assessment coursework, coordinates complex clinical simulation events and OSCEs across multiple nurse practitioner specialties, and manages a dedicated team of simulation and clinical faculty. She is also actively pursuing her PhD in Nursing at USD, where she was honored as a Jonas Scholar (2024–2026) and received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship.
Dr. Asmus brings extensive, diverse clinical expertise to her academic role. She currently practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Qualcomm Health Center in San Diego. Her broad professional background spans primary care, urgent care, dermatology, and cardiology, alongside years of foundational emergency department and progressive care nursing experience within the Scripps and Sharp healthcare systems.
A recognized leader in healthcare simulation and interprofessional education, Dr. Asmus is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). She frequently presents her work on utilizing virtual reality, telehealth, and innovative technologies to promote equity and access in nursing education. She maintains active memberships in several prestigious professional organizations, including the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
