Highlights and Program Features

The Commuter Commons, located in Hahn University Center (UC) Room 119, serves as an on-campus home for first-year and transfer commuter students, as well as continuing students who have never lived on campus. The dedicated team provides support, resources, and programming designed to build community and help commuter students feel connected and engaged at USD.

As a new first-year or transfer student, you'll be assigned a Torero Connect Counselor (TCC) through the Torero Hub. Your TCC is your go-to support for any non-academic questions, including questions about financial aid, paying your bill, or navigating the class registration portal. They’re here to guide you and connect you with the right resources, whenever you need them.

Your Scholastic Assistant (SA) is a well-transitioned, academically successful student assigned to your LLC or TLC course. They work closely with your course’s professor to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. Throughout your first year (LLC) or semester (TLC) at USD, your SA serves as a peer mentor, helping you navigate both your academic journey and your social transition.

As part of the Residential Life Team, your Resident Assistant (RA) plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a positive, inclusive living environment. They support students from diverse backgrounds, encourage personal growth and development, and promote both academic and co-curricular success. Your RA builds community by getting to know each resident personally and fostering connections through both informal conversations and organized activities.

In partnership with the department of Community and Leadership Development, your Commuter Assistant (CA) offers resources, outreach, support, and programming designed to help you build a strong sense of connection and belonging at USD—from pre-arrival onboarding and orientation through the entire academic year.
