Transfer Learning Community

You've already demonstrated you can experience success, but wouldn't you love to thrive? Your Torero experience will be different from what you’ve seen, heard, and done before, so we want to give you the tools to make the most of that experience.

Your Transfer Learning Community (TLC) will give you access to peak academic and social experiences in your first semester at USD.

While in a TLC, you will:

take a class that is rooted in USD's Liberal Arts and Catholic Intellectual traditions. This class will be taken with other new transfer students and led by an esteemed member of the faculty.

learn to recognize broad connections between different ways of problem solving, and articulate the benefits of using multiple perspectives to identify solutions to today’s urgent challenges.

explore what it means to be a Changemaker through the "Engage" lens.

Engage TLC Courses

Each TLC course fulfills the First-Year Integration Core requirement, and most fulfill at least one other core area (see individual course listings for details).

All Engage TLC courses will have a TLC Hour attached to the course from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Engage TLC

Engage to (Re)build Community

As a new member of USD and the Engage TLC, you’ll work toward solidarity, connecting with members of the USD community and beyond to facilitate discourse and encourage equitable participation in creating a more equitable world.

This Learning Community is open to transfer students only. All TLC classes satisfy the First Year Integration requirement of the core curriculum.

Working with Engage has been such a special part of my USD experience, as I get to see students from all walks of life coming together in one community. Whether they're transferring from another university or coming back to school after taking a break, our transfer community lifts each other up and becomes a fully integrated part of the USD family.
―Justine Simons Scholastic Chair for the Engage TLC
I love working with Engage students because of all of the diverse perspectives and backgrounds I get to work with! Having transfer students not only lets me bring new experiences to my students, but also allows for me to learn about their unique journeys and experiences from before coming to USD.
