Transfer Learning Community

You've already demonstrated you can experience success, but wouldn't you love to thrive? Your Torero experience will be different from what you’ve seen, heard, and done before, so we want to give you the tools to make the most of that experience. Your Transfer Learning Community (TLC) will give you access to peak academic and social experiences in your first semester at USD.

While in a TLC, you will:

  • take a class that is rooted in USD's Liberal Arts and Catholic Intellectual traditions. This class will be taken with other new transfer students and led by an esteemed member of the faculty.
  • learn to recognize broad connections between different ways of problem solving, and articulate the benefits of using multiple perspectives to identify solutions to today’s urgent challenges.
  • explore what it means to be a Changemaker through the "Engage" lens.

Engage TLC

Connecting to the community - Changemakers Engage!

As a new member of the Torero community and the Engage TLC, you'll work toward solidarity, connecting with members of the USD community and beyond to facilitate discourse and encourage equitable participation in civic life.

This Learning Community is open to transfer students only. All TLC classes satisfy the First Year Integration requirement of the core curriculum.
Begin quote The Engage theme of the TLC creates a space for transfer students who come from diverse backgrounds to join in community together and practice Changemaking in the context of community building. It encourages us to take advantage of the full USD experience by taking opportunities that present themselves to us. By doing this we are better able to enter the campus as transfer students prepared for what will come in our time at USD. – Jesse Magaña, Facilitating Transfer Scholastic Assistant for Engage
